connectedmatter is pleased to present We Run Together Through The Virtual Quarries, a three day experimental exhibition comprising performances, installations, talk, live music and dj sets spanning from Wednesday May 29th until Friday May 31st. The exhibition explores the themes of mining, extraction, and their links to the digital world.
The extractive mechanisms of late capitalism manifest in the global transformation of spaces and displacement of matter. Territories and histories are excavated, giving rise to underworld spaces such as quarries, caves, holes, and tunnels that sprawl beneath cities. These underworlds, steeped in mythical narratives, parallel our digital existence within contemporary society's "cave," where we assume the roles of digital laborers in our personalized caves.
Artists, theorists, designers, and innovators are urged to explore these shadowy underworlds, where technological dominance coexists with the potential for alternative worlds, utopian narratives, and mythical beings to emerge. By embracing the dual nature of the cave — as both a space of constraint and a realm of possibility — it prompts reflection on the intricate interplay between material and digital extractivism.
